Study on the modification of fly ash as a coagulant

This study was carried out to produce a complex coagulant containing aluminum and iron salt from coal fly ash by H2SO4 acid. An application of this extracted solution as also investigated the jar-test process. Fly collected at Electrostatic precipitation (ESP) system in Mong Duong thermal power plant are mainly round fine particles with diameters ranging 0.2-8 μm, 15 6% respectively. At room temperature 25oC, 1 M acid retention time 20 minutes, maximum contents around 60.16 mg.l-1 Fe 4.37 Al were most favorable convert mineral forms sulfate salt-based forms. The produced coagulants proved be effective for total suspended solids (TSS) removal wastewater where highest efficiency achieved 83.6% ratio 5% (w/w) concentration TSS initial 60 g.l-1. positive results open meaningful approach toward huge plants well other coal-burn-related activities Vietnam.
